During the boys challenge in the second leg of the contest for the keys to the Cosmic Anvil, Mr. Mxyzptlk got bored with the opposing players working together to solve the challenge. He released Hell Hippos to heighten the stakes. A false section of floor opened and the Hell Hippos began to rise up in a molten liquid. Lacking his super powers, Clark Kent implored Jimmy Olsen to surrender the last puzzle piece to Good Lex Luthor so the challenge would end. However, only Good Luthor and his teammate Flamebird Jimmy exited the challenge. Just before the Hell Hippos attacked, Kent and Olsen were teleported to the next ring.
