Mr. Mxyzptlk teleported the Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen he previously encountered along with their Supergirl to another dimension in beach clothes. A disembodied voice declared the contest had begun. Mxyzptlk explained he was getting divorced from his wife Gsptlsnz but their people settled things with a game instead of a court room and lawyers. They were his team and both teams would participate in a series of challenges, each challenge cleared gets them a key and entry to the next ring, and whoever's team collected the most keys and got to the center ring fastest determined who got the house, speedboat, galaxy, and what not. Supergirl asked what happened if they refused to be pawns. Mxyzptlk revealed the losers would never see their precious universe again. He was confident he would win since he had Superman on his team. Kent revealed he lost his powers.
Gsptlsnz laughed at Mxyzptlk's expense and introduced her team: General Lois Lane, Good Lex Luthor, Scion Supergirl, and Flamebird Jimmy. Mxyzptlk wanted the playing field leveled but Gsptlsnz taunted him "buyer beware." He got his rule approved: no flying. He quickly explained the first game was simply crossing the bridge to the key the fastest. He was annoyed to see it end in a tie and reminded them they're supposed to win. The next game split the players by gender. Gsptlsnz told them whoever made it to the top of S'ivaan Mountain won but warned those who were too slow or fell off the mountain would fall into the Manticore trench. Team Glitzy won the second game. Reading from "Book of Compliments," she patted Flamebird Jimmy and told him good work. Olsen and Lane realized both imps prevented the beasts from hurting them. The teams were teleported to a cavern with crystals. Mxyzptlk quickly explained it was a maze and they would win by choosing the one true path but warned them not to let the trail go cold. Supergirl realized the game was a trick and there was no one true path, the future was theirs to shape. Mxyzptlk wasn't interested in Supergirl explaining the solution to the others and took the key.
Gsptlsnz added the key to hers and inserted them into the Cosmic Anvil. She announced there was one more game left. Mxyzptlk snapped his fingers and teammates were paired off into big hamster balls then a course appeared. Gsptlsnz wanted to keep them but Mxyzptlk warned her she always got attached, they died, and she got sad. She claimed her empathy made her likable. Before the game started, Lane objected because things weren't adding up. Good Luthor agreed and pointed out it didn't seem to matter who won the keys. Kent added it only seemed to matter if they were won. Lane wondered why they both won the first game. Good Luthor noticed the keys went to the same place no matter who won them. Lane asked who was that on the anvil. Mxyzptlk tried to downplay things but Supergirl broke all the balls. Mxyzptlk and Gsptlsnz explained the Cosmic Anvil could reshape the universe but the keys unlocked its power and the keys could only be gained by mortals due to a curse that barred immortals. They offered the winners the change to reshape their universe.
Kent objected and tried to warn them not to trust Mxyzptlk then asked what happened to the losers. Mxyzptlk revealed they would get turned into a pet for Gsptlsnz, maybe a ficus. They caught him calling Gsptlsnz his "beloved wife." Mxyzptlk confessed this was a date, not a divorce, with some good old fashioned role play to spice things up. They revealed Kent's secret identity to get Good Luthor to agree to refusing to play, too. Mxyzptlk became irate. Kent called his bluff and implored him to kill them. He didn't. Time ran out. The disembodied voice declared the hour had come and since the contest had no victor, his seal remained unbroken. He bid farewell to the players then told Mxyzptlk to burn in hell. Mxyzptlk threw a fit and pounded the ground like a bratty child. Gsptlsnz was turned off and teleported away. He claimed it was just role play.
