Kirt Niedrigh discovered he had to power to absorb residual energies left by metahumans and mimic powers. As Absorbancy Boy, he applied for membership at the Legion of Superheroes Try-Outs. He was rejected on the premise that his power was dependent on close proximity to metahumans. This would endanger his life as not all of the Legion's enemies were super powered.
