Gim Allon, of Earth, was once a Science Police cadet. When he took a vacation on Mars with fellow cadet and girlfriend, Gigi Cusimano, things changed. While sand-skiing, Allon was hit by a radioactive meteor. He thought nothing of it but was transferred to the Science Police Academy Infirmary. Some time later, Allon spotted a crime in the making and pursued the criminal. The criminal escaped in an elevator but Allon caught him by growing to a height of 15 feet.
His mother, Mrs. Allon, implored him to use his new powers in the Legion of Superheroes rather than the Science Police. He joined as Colossal Boy and was nicknamed "CB2" by Cosmic Boy because they shared the same codename initials. Colossal Boy's strict work ethic transferred over at the Legion. Always on patrol, Colossal Boy is often somewhere in space. When the Fatal Five esaped prison, he was on Braal and was unable to return and protect Legion Headquarters. Even after he and the Legion were drenched in Space Squid ink, Colossal Boy returned to patrol.
