Ace Chemical is a company based in Gotham City. The chemical processing plant became a target of the Red Hood Mob. They wanted to use an ex-lab assistant to gain access to the plant and rob the Monarch Playing Cards next door. After the man learned his wife and unborn child died in an electrical accident, he tried to back out but the mobsters strong armed him. He put on the Red Hood costume while one of the mobsters cut a hole in the plant's fence. He guided them past the filter tanks and instructed them Monarch would be just beyond the partition. Security he was unaware of spotted them and opened fire. The Red Hood speculated they might have changed things after he quit. One of the mobsters was killed. The second tried to blame the Red Hood then shot at security but he was shot in the head. Batman arrived and ordered security to stop. Hood ran up the stairs but was cut off by Batman. He panicked and slipped on his own cape over the railing into a vat of chemicals. Red Hood climbed out of the waste outside and took off the helmet as his skin burned. He saw his relection in a pool of water and broke out in manical laughter. The Joker was born.
