League of Assassins

Back to Villains Main > League of Assassins

Real Identity: Not Applicable
Affiliation(s): Ra's Al Ghul
Powers/Skills: Armed Combat, Unarmed Combat, and Assassination
Voiced By: John DiMaggio

During some point in his 600 years of life, Ra's Al Ghul founded the League of Assassins. The organization's original purpose was to both protect Al Ghul and take on assassination contracts of the highest price. The League roster is kept a secret and new members are only considered if they complete a designated hit. Members were indoctrinated to die for Al Ghul at a moment's notice. The most infamous rule in the League was that if a member failed to complete a contract, then they would hunted and killed by the League. Doctor Darrk was the first assassin known to lead the League. He instilled a mindset of using strategy and manipulation to kill targets with death traps. Darrk eventually fell out of Al Ghul's favor and in retaliation, kidnapped his daughter, Talia Al Ghul. At the same time, Batman made a breakthrough in his investigation of the League and saved Talia. Darrk died in the encounter.

The growing inner circle of martial artists established a power base within the League. Soon, the Sensei took over the leadership mantle in the League. The Sensei was as manipulative and cunning as Darrk but more openly rebelled against Ra's Al Ghul. During his leadership, the Sensei contracted a new recruit named the Hook to kill someone during a public event. He chose Boston Brand, a trapeze artist, and unwittingly helped create Deadman. The Sensei was also responsible for brainwashing Ben Turner and turning him into a master assassin named Bronze Tiger. Eventually, the Sensei attempted to split off the League from Al Ghul and soon died. Angered by these sets of betrayal, Al Ghul took over the League and administered it himself.

The latest contract hit was to assassinate the Princess of Vlatava. While she arrived in America via the Star City International Airport, the League would make their move. The assassins disguised themselves as photojournalists and bystanders. The journalists rigged their cameras with guns while the others carried light handguns. However, Oliver Queen happened to be at the airport, too, and changed into Green Arrow to save the Princess' life. Green Arrow took most of them out easily with his trick arrows but one in particular fought him hand to hand until Arrow knocked him out with his bow.
