Norman is one of the Nidara who was assigned to watch over Hal Jordan. He showed Jordan the importance and dangers of the Yellow Mineral. Since conventional verbal communication was not possible, Jordan referred to him as "Norman" and he didn't seem to mind. In the battle against the Zoar, Norman carefully stripped Teela of Yellow Minerals and the two became fast friends.
