Tomar-Re is a Green Lantern who was once a scientist on his native planet of Xudar in Space Sector 2813. After serving with distinction, Tomar was promoted to the Honor Guard. At the end of Hal Jordan's first week in the Guard, he teamed up with Tomar to investigate a Manhunter Bunker in Tomar's sector. Tomar's research hadn't found any master communications signal, not even on the subsonic frequencies. After they retreated from the planet, Jordan and Tomar reported to the Guardians of Oa. While there was no signal, Tomar affirmed the activation of Manhunters was real. He then flew to the Science Branch and researched Jordan's theory about an outside force being in control. Tomar discovered an almost undetectable low level antimatter pulse was the signal activating the Manhunters and their bunkers. Tomar then triangulated all known encounters and traced the source of the pulse to the planet Biot. He shared his findings with Hal Jordan and Kilowog then accompanied them to Biot without apprising the Guardians.
Some time after, Tomar-Re was one of the Green Lanterns dispatched to Ranx to battle the Manhunters and was assigned as one of the squad leaders. Just as the Corps was dispatched to Maltus, Tomar-Re joined Jordan, who was looking at the Book of Oa, and attempted to convince him it wasn't his fault with what happened to Aya. Tomar noticed a system from Space Sector 2813 was absorbed by Aya and commented it was already devoid of life. He then joined in the battle at Maltus.
