Bumpy is a Thanagarian criminal who served under Byth Rok. He was gifted with formidable size and strength but often cheated in battle to win. Bumpy, however, had one weakness. He couldn't see out of his right eye. Eventually, while imprisoned, Bumpy took control of the gang and defeated Rok in combat. Some time later, he also defeated Kilowog but was knocked out by Hal Jordan. In a ruse to distract the Red Lanterns, Jordan fired Goggan and hired Bumpy as the new warden. He and the other Thanagarians later fled the prison but were caught by the Red Lanterns.
