Kal-El was born on his home planet, Krypton, but the world was at its natural end. Jor-El, his father and a brilliant scientist, sent his son away in a rocket with a few choice items, including the symbol of his family. Kal-El landed on Earth in Smallville, Kansas. He was discovered and raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent. They named him Clark and raised him with a strong sense of ethics and morals. When he came of age, he discovered Earth's Sun radiated him and gave him a range of super powers. Kent accepted the truth and used his powers for the good of humanity as Superman. Superman soon joined with other heroes to form the Justice League. During Professor Zoom's latest attempt to kill the Flash, he planted futuristic bombs on the Rogues. Each had a radius of 10 square blocks. Superman took Heat Wave to the outskirts of the city and held the bomb in his hands. The bomb safely detonated and Heat Wave was unharmed.

In the Flashpoint timeline, Kal-El passed over Smallville and crashed into Metropolis. A cover story about a meteor was fabricated by the government. They took Kal-El into custody and Project Superman was born. For 30 years, they kept Kal-El underground without access to the Sun, trapped in red sun radiation. All attempts to clone his Kryptonian DNA failed. One day, Kal-El was freed from captivity by Cyborg, Flash and Batman. Cyborg reassured him they were friends and not all humans were bad. Kal-El was intrigued with the word "heroes" and escaped with them. Upon absorbing yellow sun radiation, Kal-El was enamoured and flew. He used his heat vision on the soldiers of Project Superman but was unable to control it. After turning it off. Kal-El flew off and abandoned the others. Without the only other person capable to going back in time, Flash convinced the others to ready an offensive. In the final battle, Kal-El appeared on New Theymyscira. He used his heat vision to literally disarm Aquaman before he could execute Cyborg. He then blew Aquaman away and stayed by Cyborg's side as he died. Once Flash undid the damage to the timeline, Kal-El was restored to being Superman.
