Captain Adams was framed for a murder and convicted of high treason. Adam volunteered for a top secret government experiment called the Captain Atom Project in exchange for a pardon. The Project staff was ordered to utilize an alien alloy as a military application. The staff theorized that the alloy would shield its possessor from even an atomic blast. Adams absorbed too much energy too quickly, and it became fuel to thrust him forward into the future. As Captain Atom, he joined the Justice League. Recently, during the Flash Museum crisis, Captain Atom volunteered to try and vaporize the bombs but Wonder Woman interjected and pointed out the Rogues would be killed. Captain Atom took Captain Boomerang and Cyborg into the sky. Cyborg managed to defuse the bomb. In the Flashpoint timeline, Adams still became Captain Atom. With no plan, he tried to stop Aquaman and Wonder Woman by himself and went missing. Captain Atom was captured by Aquaman and used against his will as a power source for his doomsday weapon. During the final battle between the Amazons and Atlanteans, Dr. Vulko attempted to free Captain Atom but Aquaman activated the device. Atom's energies generated a blastwave that destroyed New Themyscira. The Flash outran the blast and restored the timeline to normal.
