Alfred Pennyworth is the Wayne family butler and helped raise Bruce Wayne in his childhood. Years later, Pennyworth helps Wayne put up appearances in public and monitoring the city for crime. One night, while Batman was on patrol near Sector 12, Pennyworth contacted him and asked which suit to have pressed for Bruce Wayne's meetings the next day. He held up two suits to pick from. Batman was not very alarmed. Pennyworth admitted those were the things that kept him up at night. He then asked when Batman would be returning home since he made coq au vin for dinner. However, scans picked up a break in at S.T.A.R. Labs. Later that night, while Batman and Nightwing conferred on incidents, Pennyworth alerted them of another animal-related crime in progress at the Gotham National Bank.

Back at the Batcave, Batman and Red Robin looked over the 11 related crimes and determined they formed a circle. Pennyworth noted it was a circle around The Aviary, Gotham's newest tallest building and a project of Oswald Cobblepot. He reminded Batman that Wayne was expected at the Aviary's grand opening gala that night. Pennyworth then informed Wayne his tuxedo and invitation were upstairs and told him not to be late. He walked off and the two training robots defeated by Red Robin followed. On the night of November 1st, Batman conferred with Pennyworth as he was on patrol. Pennyworth reported no mention of Solomon Grundy or Silver Banshee since they escaped Halloween night. His search on subnets, the dark web and social media came up empty, too. Batman asked him to keep looking and notify him as soon as he found something. Pennyworth inquired about pressing his tuxedo for the Gotham Museum gala coming up the next night. Batman saw a distress call at Angry Sasquatch and ended the call.

The next night, Pennyworth entered the Batcave amid a conversation between Batman and Red Robin about an upcoming video game where players could play as Batman. Pennyworth was distraught at the thought of multiple Batmans and washing all those capes. He presented Darjeeling tea, turkey sandwiches and pills for a headache to Batman. He then reminded Batman about the Gotham Museum gala in one hour. Before Batman could make up an excuse, Pennyworth reiterated the dig that uncovered the new Inca artifacts was underwritten by the Wayne Foundation so Bruce Wayne needed to make an appearance. Batman conceded and asked Pennyworth to tell Dick Grayson and Oliver Queen to be in attendance as well. Pennyworth asked about Tim Drake but he declined the notion. After the Joker and his allies took over the city, a makeshift set up was established in the Batcave. Pennyworth helped roll in a gas generator but noted it was only a temporary solution at best.

Alfred Pennyworth found Robin asleep in the Batcave and was concerned with his studying habits, familiarizing himself with Batman's villains without proper rest. He later reminded Batman of the new technology showcase at Wayne Tower, less than 10 minutes before it officially started. He put Pennyworth on logistical support and left with Robin in the Batmobile. During Dr. Langstrom's speech, Pennyworth informed them of a break-in at Arkham Asylum. He brought tea to the Batcave after they returned with Green Arrow to figure out Penguin and Mr. Freeze's logic in choosing who to break out. After Gotham was saved again, Batman decided to join Robin in training and left Pennyworth on watch duty.
