The Joker is the self titled Clown Prince of Crime and uses his criminal genius to plot elaborate capers. He masks his deadly weapons as innocent looking props such as playing cards, joy buzzers, and his lapel flower. The Joker thought up a new plan to play another practical joke on Gotham City. Using a computer virus fashioned after himself, Joker would take over the city's digital grid and render all technology useless unless he allowed it. Joker recruited Scarecrow, Solomon Grundy, Silver Banshee, and Clayface to take part in his scheme. On Halloween night, Scarecrow helped break Grundy and Banshee out of Arkham Asylum then Scarecrow and Bansee broke into S.T.A.R. Labs then stole Dr. Ivo's artificial intelligence. The next night, Clayface kidnapped Gogo Shoto, a genius video game designer, and Solomon Grundy stole an atomic battery from Gotham Power. Grundy loaded the battery into Joker's ice cream truck. He gave Grundy an ice cream bar for his efforts but Nightwing interrupted with an electricity pun.
The Joker quipped he did the jokes and ordered Grundy to take care of him. As he made his getaway, Joker was chased by Ace. Unimpressed by a robot wolf, Joker tossed explosives at it. He took a detour and drove off the highway to the streets below with Batman and Ace in hot pursuit. He refused to pull over and watched as Grundy caught up and knocked Batman off Ace. Joker had Shoto build him the virus which he called the Digital Laughing Virus. The next night, Joker interrupted Houston Raines as he started the festivities at the Gotham Museum's gala opening of a new Inca installation. Just as Commissioner Gordon ordered his men not to shoot Joker, Clayface attacked the guests as a Tyrannosaurus Rex. In the chaos, Joker shattered a display and stole the Inca Rose Stone, a relic that turned out to be an excellent conductor of energy. Joker summoned his Gorilla Cycle and took off. After a lengthy chase, Joker had the artificial intelligence infect the city with his virus. Joker declared himself king of Gotham.
As his first act, Joker renamed the city Jokertown and appointed Solomon Grundy sheriff of Gotham, Clayface baron of candy and ice cream and Scarecrow head of everything else. He later decided the city would throw him a parade in his honor the next night. The intelligence detected a high tech military suit built by Wayne Industries and Joker stole it. He repainted it in his color motif. Annoyed with the lack of progress in shooting a viral video with the others, Joker went off on a supply run. Batman and his allies raided his hideout. They freed Shoto and captured the other villains. Joker returned with Cyborg, Ace, the Batmobile, and Batplane under his control. While Batman and his allies scrambled, Joker freed Grundy, Banshee, Clayface and Scarecrow. They occupied the Gotham News building and began a 10 hour upload of the artificial intelligence into the control-room mainframe. Joker wanted to make the virus global and rename the planet Jokerworld.
Knowing Batman would interfere, Joker had set up Cyborg as the second transmitter and embedded the Inca Rose Stone in his left arm to amplify the transmission. As Joker predicted, Batman made his move with 8 minutes and 37 seconds left in the upload. Batman battled the artificial intelligence, which manifested itself as the Joker, in its realm. Batman uploaded his own virus and infected each Joker avatar the intelligence manifested. Cyborg was automatically rebooted as the intelligence lost, and he was forced to fly to the parade. Joker attempted to spread the virus but the intelligence malfunctioned. He fled from the control-room atop an office chair then jumped down an elevator shaft. He left explosives in his wake for Batman. He climbed into his battlesuit, which was inside the Joker Robo Rampage Armor. He began a 10 minute countdown and terrorized the city in the Robo Rampage as a distraction. With all the technology still offline, Batman thought of the World War II vehicles on display at the Gotham Museum.
Batman piloted a bomber jet, Nightwing and Red Robin drove motorcycles, and Green Arrow drove a tank. Batman started the barrage, then Nightwing and Robin tossed explosives at the "head" and Green Arrow fired the finishing blow. Joker flew away in the battlesuit and saw there was only three minutes left. Batman and Cyborg pursued Joker. After patching in Shoto, Batman realized Cyborg was the transmitter. Cyborg scanned himself and found the stone. Shoto advised him to attach the stone to the suit's central core and generate a feedback that would shut everything down. Batman scanned the suit and deduced it was stolen Wayne Tech and uploaded the specifications to Cyborg. Cyborg found the core in the suit's back and triggered the feedback. The city and world was saved. Joker and the suit crashed into the Gotham Bay. He avoided capture and surfaced on the other side of the bay. Irritated by his defeat, Joker walked into the forest and thought about his next plan. He brainstormed about a toy store, then a pizza joint then a restaurant chain he could call Giggles.
The Joker planned to flood the ventilation system of Gotham National Bank with his Laughing Gas then rob it with ease. When he arrived on the roof with a drum of the gas, he discovered Scarecrow was already there setting up a drum of his Fear Toxin. Scarecrow pulled out his sickle and attacked. Joker tried to gas him but learned the hard way that Scarecrow was wearing a gas mask. The Joker eventually disarmed him then knocked him off the roof with a giant mallet. At the last second, Scarecrow flipped atop the mallet and drop kicked Joker. They continued exchanging blows but eventually ran out of energy and exchanged tired hits while both lying down on their stomachs. Batman found them and they surrendered with no resistance. Joker laughed at their predicament.
The Joker fought Batman on the Boardwalk. However, after Batman sliced the mallet away, Joker lobbed acid from his lapel flower at Batman and ran for the House of Mirrors. He donned his Joker Robo Rampage Armor and destroyed the building from within then attacked Batman. Batman soon summoned the CybeRex. The duo made short work of the Rampage Armor. CybeRex dealt the final blow and nailed the armor with its tail, sending Joker flying. Joker was locked up in CybeRex's rib cage holding area. Joker later returned to the boardwalk and was chased by Batman and Green Arrow. Joker countered their moves with various prop weapons like exploding pies, wind up teeth, playing cards, a party favor that emits a strong sonic wave, and an exploding whopee cushion. He ran off into another room and came at the duo from a gun toting bumper car. Batman blew out the turrents with his Batarang Launcher while Green Arrow bounced off Joker's face then hit the back of the car with two exploding arrows. As Joker went flying, Batman shot a bat shaped net and bound Joker to a wall upside down.
The Joker robbed a Gotham National Bank while on his Gorilla Cycle. After loading up several bags of money, Joker drove right out of one of the upper floors of the bank and landed on the street below. Joker robbed a civilian just as he withdrew money from the ATM. Joker was soon chased by Batman, in the Batmobile. He threw a money bag at the Batmobile's windshield then pulled several turns as he swerved in and out of lanes. He entered a narrow alley but Batman continued chasing him on Ace. Ace shot out tendrils from its mouth and grabbed hold of the Gorilla Cycle's rear. The hard jerk launched Joker from the cycle on to a pile of trash bags. To add insult to injury, the man who was robbed earlier happened to be walking past and took his stolen money back. The Joker encountered the new Robin on his first night out on patrol with Batman. Robin accidentally leapt off the building but Batman grappled his leg and a bystander recorded the whole incident then posted it online. Joker was still captured and returned to Arkham Asylum.
The Penguin and Mr. Freeze broke into Arkham and freed Bane, Chemo, Killer Croc, and Clayface. Penguin passed by Joker's cell and was accosted. Penguin smacked his arms with his umbrella. He turned down the Joker and cited he already had to deal with one lunatic. Joker insisted Penguin needed his style. Penguin advised him to get used to his new accomodations. Joker admitted he had an absolutely awful memory but swore he wouldn't forget this insult. After the Penguin and Freeze's plans were dashed by Batman and his team, Penguin was placed in the empty cell next to the Joker's. Joker mocked him for getting caught so fast. Penguin reminded Joker they were in separate cells. Joker opened a passage between the cells and entered Penguin's then proceeded to beat him up. Some time later, Joker attempted to escape Arkham Asylum with Penguin and Scarecrow during the chaos caused by the giant Bane and Killer Croc. They were netted by Nightwing.
