Bane is a dangerous physical powerhouse. With the use of a feeder system, Bane pumps Venom, a steroidal compound, in gas form to his chest, arms, and face mask. As a result, he gains super strength and an imposing physical form. One night, Bane broke onto the Gotham Power grounds. He was opposed by Batman, who was wearing his Battle Armor. Bane ripped a piece of the road and threw it at Batman. He was able to punch through the rubble.
Batman ducked Bane's punch and body slammed him but Bane caught the follow up punch. Bane tossed Batman into the side of a building then threw a crushing right. Batman dodged but was forced to block a right punch. The gauntlets of the Battle Armor disintegrated. Bane launched two more hits and destroyed the rest of the armor. Bane pursued Batman to a roof. Pelted with gas balls, Bane charged Batman and knocked him into a reactor room. Batman armed his Batarang Launcher and fired. He hit the part of the Venom device on his chest. Bane roared and lunged. Batman leapt over him and fired at the Venom device on his back. After the Venom discharged, Bane was reduced to his normal form. Too weak to move his now incredibly heavy gloves, Bane was knocked out with an uppercut. Bane and Killer Croc had a known rivalry but it turned into a grudge after Croc sold him out to the police.
Bane was one of the supervillains liberated from Arkham Asylum by Penguin and Mr. Freeze. Bane soon objected to working alongside Croc but Batman, Robin, and Green Arrow arrived, forcing the villains to make a quick escape into the sewer tunnels. Freeze extracted Bane's Venom, Clayface's mud, and Chemo's sludge to synthesize a new compound, a Monster Venom. It was successfully tested on Croc, who became a giant. Bane and Clayface remained loyal to Penguin and were given the Monster Venom when he turned on Freeze. He set out to settle the score with Croc and fought him near the Gotham City Police Department headquarters. Croc eventually took Bane out with his tail. He recovered and joined Croc in fighting the Bat Mech. Bane got the mech in a hold and tried to peel it open but an array of missiles on its back launched and struck him. Bat Mech quickly took down Croc. Bane thanked Batman for doing his dirty work and revealed he was going to take over Gotham. The Bat Mech was overloaded from Bane's attacks and shut down.
Batman got Bane talking while he rebooted the mech's systems. Bane admitting working for the Penguin was a means to an end. Batman remarked it looked like he was sitting back and watching Bane do all the work. Bat Mech reactivated and caught Bane's right punch, crushed it, then uppercut him. Bane continued to try to break the mech's back and got in a bear hug but the mech bashed both his ears at the same time. Bane grabbed a gasoline tanker truck and bashed the mech with it. The mech flipped Bane but he leg tossed the mech. The Bat Mech fired its gauntlet at Bane and severed his delivery system's tubes then struck him with a flying elbow, a barrage of punches, a gauntlet powered punch then a clothesline. Bane was knocked out and crashed near Croc. They both shrank to normal size and were taken into police custody.
Bane was injected with a serum by Mr. Freeze and transformed into a giant monster. Bane erupted from Freeze's warehouse hideout and marched down Gotham City punching at buildings. He noticed several civilians looking at him from an office. He prepared to punch their building when Batman intervened at launched a missile into his face from his Batcycle. Batman landed on his face and instigated a chase that led to the highway. Eventually, Batman could not stay ahead and was forced to abandon his cycle. Bane punched it into the side of a building. Batman boarded his Bat Mech, parked nearby, and took out Bane with an uppercut. Bane later attacked a science base. He ripped open a building and stole a giant military blaster then shot the army firing on him. The Bat Mech arrived and disarmed him of the blaster with a grapnel line. Bane took a punch from the Mech but blocked the second punch and tossed it. He unleashed a flurry of punches on the offline Bat Mech but was blasted from behind by the Arrow Mech. Batman rebooted the Bat Mech and knocked Bane out with a tank while he was preoccupied with punching the Arrow Mech.
Bane and Killer Croc teamed up for an assault on Arkham Asylum. They continued past the inner wall even with Commissioner Gordon leading a small police force against them. Nightwing, in the Batplane, opened up a barrage of missile fire on them. Bat Mech soon arrived by air and used the momentum to launch into Bane, knocking him out.
