Pamela Isley was a meek botanist interning under Dr. Jason Woodrue. She was recruited by Ferris Boyle to work at Gothcorp as a visiting specialist to perfect strains of freeze resistant plants for farming in cold climates. Woodrue modified her genetic code with plant DNA and mutated her. Isley discovered she could control plants, release mind control pheromones, and secrete a deadly toxin from her skin. Now Poison Ivy, she sought to get her revenge by releasing poison plant spores into Gotham City and kill thousands. Ivy was captured and taken to Arkham Asylum. She continued to deteriorate mentally and began to see herself as an incarantion of Mother Nature. During a prison break instigated by the Joker, Poison Ivy went to the island's Botanical Gardens and began amassing her plant army. She returned to the main grounds and began taking inmates and police officers as her slaves. Ivy then made a push to the bridge but was opposed by the Gotham City Police Department. They released a volley of tear gas, forcing her to retreat back to Arkham Island.
