The Gotham Palace is a theater that is also used for live episodes of a popular variety show of the same name. Famous actress Miranda Monroe is the current host of the show. One night, Gotham Palace was chosen by the Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman to debut their latest evil alliance. They ambushed the musical guests, Hector and the Ho Daddies, and tossed them into a broom closet backstage. After Monroe introduced the band, they played a song terribly then revealed themselves. A group of teenagers in the audience attempted to rush the stage and hold off the villains for the police but Joker bound them with trick streamers. As the police neared the Palace, the villains fled the scene. Riddler rolled a live bomb towards the teenagers but it only housed a taunt in the form of a riddle. Police confiscated the riddle. Luckily, Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson were fans of the show and were watching that night. They met with Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara at the Gotham City Police Headquarters. The clue led them to the Acme Atomic Energy Laboratory where the villains stole the Replica Ray.

After Batman and Robin defeated the Joker, Penguin, and Riddler on an abandoned space station, they returned to Earth. Batman began to act more and more oddly, even leaving Robin in the city. Without a care, Wayne settled down to watch Gotham Palace. Just as Monroe introduced the Bed Bugs, a band from Manchester, Grayson arrived. He didn't care about Grayson's trials of getting home and pined over Monroe. Soon, Batman became a total egomaniac due to exposure to Catwoman's Batnip serum that was secretly spiked with Joker's Laughing Gas. He eventually he needed more attention and took over Gotham Palace with his clones. He warned viewers that his Batmen attached Bat-VHF detonators to every TV aerial in Gotham City. If anyone tried to change the channel or turn off the TV, their set would explode. Robin and Catwoman interrupted his monologue with an army of villains sprung from the Gotham State Penitentiary. The villains were defeated and rounded up after a battle royale. Batman prepared to execute Robin and Catwoman with his bare hands.

Alfred Pennyworth, in disguise as a deliveryman, gave Batman a congratulatory bottle of champagne. Thinking nothing of it, Batman took a drink and was cured of the Batnip. Catwoman was taken into custody by Gordon and O'Hara. In lieu of offering to be a character witness, Catwoman instead kissed Batman. Batman explained his long standing back up plan with Pennyworth as a precaution for brainwashing. Robin was amazed he was a step ahead. They suddenly realized Batman was used as a distraction while Joker, Penguin, and Riddler went on a crime spree. They exited Gotham Palace and found Catwoman waiting in the Batmobile outside on the curb.
