Bookworm plotted to raid the Gotham City Library's Irreplaceable Rare Books Vault. Two-Face learned of it and decided to steal rare books to help fund his master plan to transform the people of Gotham City with Evil Essence. He sent a world atlas filled with worms to the Gotham City Police Department headquarters with an explicit address to Batman. He detected several pages were missing, pages of different world capitals, and deduced the longitudes and latitudes to correspond to the library's classification method, the Dewey Decimal System. Batman used his encyclopedic knowledge of the card catalog to figure out the numbers corresponded to rare editions of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Man in the Iron Mask, and A Tale of Two Cities. Robin recalled those were housed in the Rare Editions wing of the library. The librarian on duty shushed them. Robin whispered he was sorry. Batman whispered they had to get to the Rare Editions wing. The librarian was actually Bookworm's moll Lydia Limpet. She activated her walkie and sent out a Henchmen Alert. The real librarian was an older woman tied up and gagged behind the desk.

In the Irreplaceable Rare Books Vault, Bookworm laser cut a circle in the vault door with his hat's device. He couldn't wait to add the priceless leather-bound editions to his eclectic ensemble. Batman cast his shadow and spooked Bookworm. Batman demanded his surrender. Bookworm was amused Batman thought he came without protection. The Worms, his four henchmen, came into the vault behind Batman and Robin. Batman told them wait and asked if they were forgetting something. Bookworm told them to give their glasses to Lydia. The fight resumed. Lydia shushed everyone. A Worm grabbed a rare book to use as a weapon but Batman stopped him, placed the book back in the case, and decked him. In the mayhem, Twin 1 and Twin 2, Two-Face's henchmen, sneaked into vault and stole the rare books. The Worms knocked onto Bookworm. Chief O'Hara and the police entered the vault and rounded up Bookworm and his gang. Batman and Robin helped Bookworm up and the right side of glasses fell off. Bookworm cursed them. Batman asked O'Hara to read him his rights. O'Hara chided Bookworm about Batman figuring out his clue. Bookworm had no idea what he was talking about. Batman and Robin were puzzled and realized the rare books were gone.
