The Bat-Signal is a form of communication used between Police Commissioner Gordon and Batman when there's a case that warrant his help. After the Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman crashed an episode of Gotham Palace, Alfred Pennyworth informed Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson of the Bat-Signal outside in the night sky. Grayson's aunt Harriet Cooper suspected they were Batman and Robin but Wayne informed her they were just running off to go night fishing. Likewise, during Harriet Cooper's birthday party, the Bat-Signal was shown again. This time, Wayne and Grayson claimed they were going skeet shooting.
Chief O'Hara activated the Bat-Signal after the police learned King Tut stole a valuable bi-plane from the Amiable Skies Aviation Hangars. Dick Grayson noticed it first and alerted Bruce Wayne then they went to the Batcave.
