Once the Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman stole the Replica Ray, they discussed what do with it. Catwoman pointed out they had to sway Batman to their side in order to thrive. She proposed using her Batnip serum and explained one scratch of it would allow her to manipulate him. The Joker secretly spiked her Batnip with his own Laughing Gas to make it more potent. It failed to work on Batman after Catwoman scratched his cheek with a claw. He cited his moral fiber was stronger that any substance she could concoct. The dose, in reality, was slow reacting. At first, Batman became confrontational with others such as chiding Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara for wasting taxpayers' money for watching a Belgravian space launch while on duty. As Bruce Wayne, he fired Alfred Pennyworth when Aunt Harriet almost discovered the Bat-Phone. Batman even donned brass knuckles and roughed up Joker, Penguin, and Riddler more than usual. He continued to act more erraticly and left Robin behind at the Gotham City Police Headerquarters, yelled at Aunt Harriet, kicked out Dick Grayson, and ignored his duties as Batman.

The spiked Batnip's effects soon took full effect and Batman became an egomaniac. He used the Replica Ray to clone himself and replace heads of state with his duplicants, removing people from their positions such as Commissioner Gordon, Chief O'Hara, and Mayor Linseed. Robin sought out Catwoman for an antidote. However, Batman deduced they would try to cure him and took a Bat-Anti-Antidote. He neutralized Robin and Catwoman with Bat-Knockout Gas and placed them on a pulley lowered down into the Batcave's nuclear silo. Pennyworth, following long standing instructions if he was ever fired, gathered ingredients for an antidote to neutralize the Bat-Anti-Antidote and posed as a deliveryman at Gotham Palace. Batman drank a bottle of champagne he believed to be a gift from a fan and was cured of the Batnip.
