Clement Lemar was born in 1912. General Lemar served in the Vietnam War and was part of a weapons smuggling ring. In 1968, Captain Adams confided in Lemar, age 56, about a suspected weapons smuggling ring located on Hill 409. Lemar claimed he heard rumors of the ring and ordered Adams to take a squad with him. Lemar saw this as an opportunity to get rid of Adams and Lieutenant Yarrow, a co-conspirator of the ring he took orders from. Lemar resented taking orders from a lower ranking officer. He tipped off General Trang, the ring's North Vietnamese contact, and had him ambush the squad. The squad was nearly killed in a Viet Cong ambush. Adams and Lieutenant Yarrow survived. He blamed Lemar and became convinced the general was part of the ring. Yarrow in turn planned to kill Lemar. He drugged Adams' drink. While confronting Lemar, Adams blacked out and awoke to find Lemar murdered. Sergeant Polk took Adams' service knife and murdered Lemar on Yarrow's orders. A court martial found that Adams' service knife was the murder weapon and he was sentenced to life in prison.
