Verhoyansk is a town in the Sakha Republic of Russia located on the Yana River along Siberia near the Arctic Circle. On February 17th, 17:59 Omsk Summer Time (OMSST), Team Year Five, the Team followed the tracer Artemis planted on Sportsmaster to Verhoyansk. Braving arctic tundra and a temperature of five degrees, Alpha Squad tried to follow Dr. Sandsmark's signal amid earthquakes generated by the Tiamat statue fragment. They boarded a LexCorp cargo ship and landed at a base camp, where they took out a transmission tower that was interfering with Sandsmark's signal. Villagers from a small mining community were being kidnapped and frozen at the command of Killer Frost. Alpha freed all the villagers and confronted Frost then closed in on Sportsmaster, who was with Icicle Jr. using a laser cannon to dislodge the statue fragment. Alpha defeated both villians and gained both of Sportsmaster's fragments but the area became very unstable.
Superman was dispatched to help stabilize the area and save the nearby village. He tunneled a hole into the mountain to divert the flow and ran into Alpha Squad. Together, they prevented the avalanche from reaching the village. As Superman thanked the squad, the villagers cheered in celebration.
