Kord Industries is a company founded by the late Ted Kord. In July, Team Year Five, The Light sent Sportsmaster and Deathstroke to Kord Industries to take the Scarab. Blue Beetle opposed them but lost his life making sure the Scarab was not taken. Nearing his curfew, Jaime Reyes cut through a Kord Industries branch parking lot in El Paso and witnessed an explosion. Reyes noticed a blue scarab on the ground and picked it up. It activated and bonded to his spine, turning him into Blue Beetle. Eight months later, on March 30th, Team Year Six, the Reach accessed this event from the Scarab's memory files.
