The Esagila (roughly translated as "House of the Raised Head") is a temple dedicated to the Babylonian god Marduk. The complex, consisting of a large court containing a smaller court and a central shrine, was considered the center of Babylon and stronghold of Babylonian culture. The shrine consists of many statues of Marduk and his consort Sarpanit.
On February 18th, Team Year Five, Alpha Squad, led by Aqualad, entered the Esagila's Royal Garden after battling through a gauntlet of Bialyan Republican Guard and LexCorp robots. Just as they entered the gardens, an earthquake was generated by the Tiamat statue. Alpha eventually discovered the entrance to the underground temple but found there were two paths. Beta Squad was dispatched to cover the northwest entrance. Beta reached the Sacred Well Room first and witnessed Klarion awaken Tiamat. While Beta attempted to fight off the dragon, Alpha Squad fought Klarion and Blockbuster for the Tablet of Destiny, the only object able to stop Tiamat. However, it was destroyed in the scuffle. Aquagirl sacrificed her life to return Tiamat to dormancy and save the world.
