When the Appellaxians, a race of energy beings, attempted to conquer Earth, they took on seven host bodies - Golden Roc, Wood-King, Crystal Creature, Stone-God, Fire Lord, Glass Man, and Mercury Monster. Several heroes came together and defeated the Appellaxian Golems. The host bodies of Fire Lord, Glass Man, and Mercury Monster didn't survive the battle. The surviving four host bodies were on public display at the Hall of Justice. 12 years later, on February 13th, Ugly Mannheim used a device that drew on the residual psychic energies left in the four husks. The host bodies were combined into one being, a Golem, under Mannheim's control. Once free, it attempted to kill itself creating nuclear meltdown at a power plant. Partner destroyed the Golem while the Team communicated with it.
