Arnus is an alien who came to live on Earth. In 1810, Arnus emerged as a human infant. Taking the name Augustus Freeman, he grew up to become lawyer and lives in Dakota City. At some point, he acquired experience in intergalactic trial law. In May Team Year Zero, Freeman met a teenager named Raquel Ervin who convinced him to become a superhero. Freeman took the name Icon while Ervin became his protege Rocket.
On October 1st, Team Year Zero, Icon and Rocket saved a helicopter crew that got too close to a Plant Creature. On November 5th, 21:08 CDT, Icon saved a school bus from falling off a bridge. On November 25th, Superman nominated Icon to join the Justice League. Wonder Woman supported the choice. On December 30th, Icon was inducted into the Justice League as its 20th member. On January 26th, Team Year Six, Icon agreed to use his experience in intergalactic trial law to serve as the Justice League's advocate during a trial on Rimbor. On June 20th, Icon managed to arrange for the tribunes to hear the new evidence. Once the charges were dropped, Icon thanked Superboy, Miss Martian, and Adam Strange for their help. Icon attended Wally West's funeral.
On January 25th, 22:25 UTC, Icon was part of the Justice League's second assault on the Orphanage but they were all quickly enthralled by Granny Goodness's machine and were under the sway of the Anti-Life Equation. On Janaury 26th, 01:17 UTC, the enthralled League was present at the machine when the Team's mission failed. At 02:48 UTC, they were liberated by Halo then they destroyed the machine. On February 24th, 19:00 EST, Icon remotely attended the meeting of the League, Team, Outsiders, and Batman and Nightwing's covert teams on the Watchtower from the Javelin. He voted for Black Lightning to be the next leader of the League.
