Katar Hol was born in 1971. In adulthood, he rose to the military rank of Captain on Thanager. He and Shayera Thal fell in love and got married. Together on Earth, they became heroes in 2004. They soon joined the Justice League as Hawkman and Hawkwoman in May 2004. He was assigned the designation 09. On the evening of July 4th Team Year Zero, Hawkman volunteered to help escort the Blockbuster to the proper authorities along with Hawkwoman, both Green Lanterns of Sector 2814, and Captain Atom.

On October 1st, 18:13 EDT, Hawkman fought Plant Creatures in Metropolis with Superman, Green Lantern (John Stewart), and Hawkwoman. On November 11th, Captain Atom, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, and Wonder Woman destroyed the last of five Flying Ice Fortresses. On November 25th, 06:54 EST, he attended a Justice League meeting on the Watchtower about recruiting new members. On December 30th, 09:16 EST, he was present at the induction ceremony for The Atom, Dr. Fate, Icon, Plastic Man, and Red Arrow. On December 30th, 23:46 EST, the League, now controlled by the Light through Starro-tech, welcomed Vandal Savage to the Watchtower. On December 31st, after 23:16 EST, Superboy and Robin applied Curotech to Hawkman. On January 4th, after 21:59 CST, Hawkman was part of the group of Leaguers and the Team who arrived at the Kroloteans' New Orleans base. On January 26th Team Year Six, Hawkman insisted on accompanying Hawkwoman to Rimbor where the Justice League would stand trial for a rampage instigated by the Light.

On April 2nd, 20:04 UTC, Hawkman was in the audience during the League's trial on Rimbor. On June 20th, 00:16 UTC, Hawkman could only watch as the accused Leaguers were found guilty. He shared a look with Hawkwoman. They were later exonerated thanks to new evidence presented by Superboy, Miss Martian, and Adam Strange. On their way to depart Rimbor, they saw Warworld. They arrived on Earth at 23:16 EDT. He attended Wally West's funeral. On November 3rd, 23:16 UTC, Team Year Eight, Hawkman and Hawkwoman were part of a group of Leaguers who investigated an Apokoliptian assault of an Nth Metal refinery on Thanagar. Hawkman attempted to convince the skeptical Commander Hro Talek that the refinery fit the profile of other facilities raided by Parademons on several planets. However, attack patterns were different and no Boom Tube activity was detected. Hawkman pointed out Nth Metal was another rare material and would fit with what other rare elements were stolen on other planets.

Talek repeated there was no evidence of Apokoliptian attack and scanners only detected Earthling bio signs. Hawkman brought up how they sent him files on Earth metahumans being kidnapped offplanet for use by Apokolips. Talek contemplated sending a Hawk Fleet to quarantine Earth's populace. Talek brought up how the Rimbor incident also tarnished Thanagar's reputation because of Hawkwoman's involvement then Thanagar was attacked by humans and the League happens to show up to sing a reprieve. Before Hawkman could respond, Talek dismissed them. Green Lantern Guy Gardner ran his own scan on the sly and found an ion trail. On November 6th, 19:12 UTC, Hawkman piloted the Javelin with Wonder Woman. Hawkman muted Gardner's line, tired of his singing. Superman sighted the Orphanage. On November 7th, 01:20 UTC, Hawkman confirmed the ion trail led directly to the Orphanage. He opened fire on the Orphanage and deployed drones. On February 24th, 19:00 EST, Team Year Nine, Hawkman remotely attended a meeting between the League, Team, Outsiders, and Batman and Nightwing's covert teams on the Watchtower from the Javelin. He voted for Black Lightning to be the next leader of the League.
