Tula is a citizen of Atlantis, is 16 years old, and is currently enrolled at the Conservatory of Sorcery. She is best friends with class mates Kaldur'ahm and Garth. Kaldur'ahm hid his feelings for Tula and while he was away serving as Aqualad, Garth and Tula became romantically involved. One of her known teachers was Queen Mera, herself. During a siege by Black Manta, Tula took a hit for Garth and was rendered unconscious. She later recovered in time to wish Aqualad goodbye once more. On September 6th, she and Garth stood by Aqualad's side when he returned to the Conservatory to investigate reports of unrest. On September 7th, Tula aided in the battle against the Purists and Ocean-Master. At some point, Tula joined the Team as Aquagirl and received the designation B-11.

On February 17th, Team Year Five, Aquagirl helped coordinate the Team's mission in Greece. She attempted to track Dr. Sandsmark's signal back to its source location to no avail. She began gathering information and learned the Museum of History in Athens just opened an exhibit to showcase the artifacts recovered by Dr. Sandsmark. While Alpha Squad raced to Athens, Aquagirl contacted the museum director and was told Sandsmark's exhibit was in the Antiquities Wing on the top floor. She relayed the information to Alpha but Sportsmaster eavesdropped on the conversation. After Alpha destroyed an antenna blocking transmissions in Verhoyansk, Aquagirl alerted them about seismic activity similar to those detected those in Greece then reloaded Sportsmaster's coordinates for them. When the Team convened back at Mount Justice, it became apparent the statue fragments had magical properties. Aqualad sent the two fragments with Aquagirl to the research center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to discover everything she could about them.

On February 17th, Team Year Five, after Alpha Squad defeated Bane, Aqualad made contact with Aquagirl to learn more about Atabey's Shrine. They proceeded to find Aquaman and recovered a third fragment before Lex Luthor could leave the Santa Prisca with it. Aquagirl received it soon after and shared some of her research, found in the Watchtower database. The statue dated back to 2nd Millennium BCE and depicted Tiamat from one of the oldest recorded versions of the Chaoskampf myth. Aquagirl informed the others about the story of Tiamat and Marduk. While Alpha Squad was dispatched to Gotham City, Aquagirl had heard back from Green Lantern after he consulted with the Guardians of the Universe's historical records on Oa as she requested. Aquagirl learned Tiamat was an alien weapon of chaos fueled by water, was capable of causing global disasters, and was impervious to damage. She was joined by Tempest who joined all the fragments into one. Tempest revealed himself to actually be Klarion and exited the museum through a portal. Aquagirl ran through the portal before it closed.

On February 18th, Team Year Five, Aquagirl was captured and taken to the Sacred Well Room in the Esagila, located in Bialya. Klarion decided to feed her magic into the machines to be used to awaken Tiamat instead of his own and had Blockbuster restrain her to a column. Beta Squad soon arrived but were encased in a force field by Klarion. As Tiamat arose and Klarion toyed with Beta, Aquagirl screamed out the Tablet of Destiny was an artifact of Order. After Beta defeated Tiamat twice, Nightwing was able to free Aquagirl, who was amazed they were able to damage it. Tiamat soon rose up in a third form. Aquagirl elected to use her magic to try and hold it back while Beta battled it again. She realized the only way to stop Tiamat was through sacrifice like Marduk. Aquagirl returned Tiamat to a dormant state and saved the world, but at the cost of her life. Aqualad and Tempest arrived too late and pulled her body from the debris.

On February 18th, 09:59 Eastern Standard Time (EST), Team Year Five, Nightwing didn't want Aquagirl's sacrifice to go in vain and implored the rest of the Team to continue the fight. He believed it was time to take the fight to the Light's doorstep. Tula was memorialized in the Grotto under Mount Justice. As part of a cover story for his deep cover mission, Aqualad blamed the Team for leaving Aquagirl to die and the impact of her death seemingly led him to begin working for his biological father, Black Manta. On April 9th, Team Year Six, Miss Martian and Artemis ventured into Kaldur'ahm's broken mind to try and fix it. A construct of Aquagirl attacked them but only Miss Martian was affected as she began to accept it was all her fault anyway. Once Artemis found Kaldur'ahm and brought him to Miss Martian, the construct dissipated.
