In the World War II era, T.O. Morrow completed his second creation: Red Inferno, younger sister of Red Torpedo. It posed as Firebrand, a pyrokinetic superhero, the second to take up the codename. She became a much loved and admired heroine. While at the site of the 1939 New York World's Fair in 1945, Firebrand took a shot from the Dragon King. Firebrand deactivated but was presumed dead by others. She was buried at Queens Memorial Cemetery. A failure, T.O. Morrow created a third hero: Red Tornado.
In the present, Reilly's body was well preserved in its grave. On September 6th, 20:13 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), Dr. Lockhart finished digging up her grave per T.O. Morrow's wishes. On September 7th, Morrow removed her Firebrand body with a laser scalpel and reactivated her. In her new form, Red Inferno has a similar red and yellow design as Red Tornado. On September 22nd, Red Inferno and Red Torpedo invaded the Cave and easily captured Miss Martian, Superboy, the Sphere, Kid Flash, and Aqualad. Red Inferno imprisoned Miss Martian and Aqualad in a cage-like heat construct. Artemis used one last arrow to trigger an electromagnetic pulse and neutralize the androids. However, when Red Tornado arrived, the pulse wore off. When he investigated, Red Inferno activated and reprogrammed Tornado. When the Team regained consciousness, the three androids were gone.
On October 10th, Red Inferno was reactivated alongside Red Torpedo by Bromwell Stikk and met their younger brother Red Volcano. Red Tornado appealed to his older brother and sister's heroism to defeat Volcano. After Red Torpedo attacked with water spouts, Red Tornado knocked Red Volcano into a lava pit, and Red Inferno laid down blasts of fire. Red Torpedo and Red Inferno dove in and kept Volcano from surfacing. The three were destroyed in the process.
