Rako was born in 1958. He was protected by North Vietnamese Army General Trang since he was a child and trained as Trang's protege. However, as time went on, Rako's loyalty shifted. On August 13th, now donned in a suit of armor and armed with a X-Ionized Sword, the seven foot tall Rako began murdering people connected to the 1968 conviction of Captain Nathaniel Adams and weapons smuggling ring. On August 14th, 00:32 Eastern Daylight Time, Rako visited Trang at his mansion in Annapolis. Miss Martian entered and telekinetically disarmed Rako. Rako's visor sighted the cloaked heroine and knocked her aside. Superboy joined the battle but was shocked when Rako's sword cut his chest.
Rako evaded the Team, murdered Trang, and fled the scene. He met up with Henry Yarrow and Alec Rois in St. George, Utah to set a trap for the Team. Aqualad used his Water-Bearers to render Rako unconscious. He and Rois were turned over to the local police. They soon escaped. After Rako was put into hiding, Rois met up with the smuggling ring's true leader, General Eiling.
