Victor Fries became a supervillain named Mr. Freeze. He wears refrigeration suit to sustain him and is armed with a Cold Gun, capable of freezing anyone and anything on sight.
On July 4th, at 12:00 Easterm Daylight Time (EDT), Mr. Freeze resurfaced in Gotham City and froze civilians celebrating the Independence Day holiday at the park but was beaten by Robin and Batman. Freeze was sent to his usual cell in Arkham Asylum. However, he petitioned the court to be declared legally sane. As a result, he was transferred to Belle Reve Penitentiary. This played into Icicle Senior's plans to stage a mass break out. Once all members of the Justice League were accounted for except Red Tornado, Mr. Freeze attacked Icicle Senior in order to advance the plot. Freeze was taken to see the warden, Amanda Waller, where he overpowered her and demanded access to master control. Every prisoner's Proprietary Collars could then be deactivated and thus, allow them to use their meta abilities. Mr. Freeze, Icicle Senior, and Captain Cold began work on creating an exit but Superboy delayed them. Just as Freeze was about to overpower a misguided Icicle Junior, Superboy smashed his dome. Unable to survive with his suit breached, Freeze froze himself.
