At some point, Green Arrow "stumbled" onto Merlyn's stage and "horned" in on his act. On September 29th, Team Year Zero, Oliver Queen recognized Merlyn outside the Star City International Airport and changed into Green Arrow. After Joe Henchy, Piotor Platz, and Johann Mintz's initial attempt to assassinate Queen Perdita Vladek failed, Mintz hailed Merlyn on comms to inform him it was is turn to try. Merlyn perched atop the terminal roof and fired two arrows as soon as Green Arrow stood up from behind a baggage car on the tarmac. One went through a shoulder, the other through a leg. Merlyn believed he was going to enjoy himself. He blew up the car with a flaming arrow to the hood. Arrow and Vladek landed on a conveyor belt leading to baggage claim inside. Merlyn went to his comms and asked the development be reported to the client, Count Vertigo.
Merlyn went inside and waited for them at baggage claim with an arrow drawn. He asked them what he should do with their bodies after he killed them both. Green Arrow challenged Merlyn to a one arrow duel. Vladek became alarmed when Merlyn mentioned he won the last 16 of their duels. Arrow assured her he had been practicing a lot. Arrow won and split Merlyn's arrow and bow string then rendered him unconscious with gas emitted from the trick arrow used.
