Project Cadmus, under the direction of Lex Luthor and Dr. Desmond used a sample of Superman's Kryptonian DNA to clone a match to face him. Project Match was initiated. However, Kryptonian DNA proved difficult to read using current science. While the Super-Clone possessed all of Superman's powers, the gaps in his genetic sequence drove him insane. Match was too unstable and put into cryogenic suspended animation. Match was placed in a vault hidden on Sub Level 52.
Some time later, on November 25th, Superboy learned of Match's existence from Luthor. Superboy and Wolf found Match and freed him. Match awoke and set his sights on Superboy. The S-Shield sparked Match into fighting Superboy. Once Superboy was rendered unconscious, Match attempted to use his heat vision to carve an S-Shield into his chest but it came out backwards. Dubbilex neutralized Match and took him to Genomorph City. Three G-Gnomes were tasked with keeping him docile and rehabilitating him. Once Match sighted Superboy, he went into another frenzy. Superboy used a Shield and knocked out Match. Match was put back on ice in his pod. On January 1st, he was taken by the Light.
At some point, Match's physical appearance began to deteriorate. On December 1st, Team Year Five, the sphere generated by Brainiac's probe in Metropolis cut through the containment pod holding Match. LexCorp security officers attempted to contain him but failed. Otis informed Lex Luthor of the developments. At 17:30 Eastern Standard Time (EST), Match appeared at the edge of the sphere near where Batgirl was. Batgirl distracted Match long enough for everyone in the park to evacuate. After about an hour, Batgirl asphyxiated Match. However, she was launched backward into the force-field sphere and went unconscious. Match collapsed as a LexCorp van pulled up to them. Match's physical condition continued to deteriorate.
On November 11th, after 22:33 UTC+2, Team Year Ten, A squad from Onslaught was waiting inside the Lexcorp Robotics factory in Madinat Altharwati, Greater Bialya: Devastation, Mammoth, and Shimmer. Superboy pointed out the Outsiders were motivated to save Queen Perdita Vladek and she was outnumbered. Devastation introduced their latest recruit, Match. Superboy blocked Match's blow but tried to reason with him not to fight. Oracle tried to hail Superboy on comms about Kryptonite but shielding garbled her message. To Superboy's surprise, Match collapsed in his arms. He soon realized it was due to Kryptonite poisoning. Metallo called Superboy the world's finest ingrate for not thanking him for taking care of Metallo then introduced himself.
On November 12th, 12:03 EST, Miss Martian reported no heroes were left behind in the Bialya mission and Psimon left no surprises behind in Vladek's mind either. Nightwing was sorry they lost the stolen Kryptonite to Lex Luthor and Metallo. Still recovering from Kryptonite exposure in a solar chamber, Superboy mused you lose some, you win some and took solace in saving Vladek as well as getting their brother Match back. Match was recovering in a nearby chamber as well.
