Crystal Frost was originally part of an ice experiment gone wrong. The incident gave her incredible powers over ice and cold. As Killer Frost, she is psychotic and kills out of pleasure.
On July 4th, at 6:02 Hawaiian Standard Time (HST), the 27 year old Killer Frost attacked civilians at Pearl Harbor in Hawai'i but was defeated by Aquaman and Aqualad. Aqualad attacked with his frozen Water-Bearers and uppercutted Frost unconscious. Frost was immediately sent to Belle Reve Penitentiary where she was placed in the Women's Wing. On September 16th, Tuppence Terror, who was actually Miss Martian, was placed in a prison cell with Frost. When Miss Martian's cover was blown, she was frozen by Killer Frost. When Superboy learned this, he used an inmate as a shield and tossed her onto Frost.
In February Team Year Five, Killer Frost was assigned to presiding over the Light's base camp in Verhoyansk. She passed the time by having villagers from a nearby mining community kidnapped and frozen alive to serve as sculptures in her 'Frost Garden.' On February 17th, Alpha Squad rescued the villagers and defeated Killer Frost.
