Joar Mahkent is the original Icicle, a supervillain who uses cryokinetic technology and a genius in the field. He became a long-time enemy of the Justice League. Icicle's technology had a side effect of retarding his aging process by 35 years. Mahkent displays little interest in his son, Icicle Junior, and only demands his presence when the situation requires it.
While imprisoned at Belle Reve Penitentiary, 85 year old Icicle Senior became the head of the prisoners. In mid-September, Senior initiated a mass break out attempt with smuggled technology. Despite not escaping, Senior was satisfied with accomplishing multiple objectives, in part for the Light, and met with Professor Strange.
