Simon Ecks was born in 1981. He grew to become a world renowned geneticist. At some point, he was recruited to the Bedlam Syndicate in Markovia. As a cover and as a way of procuring test subjects for meta-activation experiments, Ecks took a low paying job at the Markovburg Children's Hospital. He used his position to falsify hospital records to hide the kidnappings. Ecks later confirmed he had the meta-gene and activated, gaining the power to self-replicate. Ecks lacked any ethical concerns and was only interested in the science. On July 4, 22:16 EEST, Team Year Eight, Ecks facilitated the kidnapping of Ana von Forth from the hospital. He then lied to her brother Otto von Forth that she died. After her meta-activation was a success, Ecks lured Otto to the hospital under the pretext of a cure for his hereditary heart condition. Ecks was given a Mother Box by Baron Bedlam to study but he only succeeded in destroying it and releasing its soul. On July 30, 19:23 EEST, at the pre-coronation gala at the Markovian Royal Palace for soon-to-be King Gregor Markov, Dr. Helga Jace introduced Prince Brion Markov to Ecks. After Prince Brion Markov inquired about meta-genes, Ecks took him to the hospital.
Count Vertigo neutralized Markov then Ecks sedated him. Ecks was berated but he claimed he was following orders. After Vertigo left to verify his claim, Ecks could only protest to Jace exposing Markov to Tar. On July 31, 00:02 EEST, Vertigo returned and was even angrier. Ecks quickly blamed Jace. Baron Bedlam, the head of the Bedlam Syndicate, ordered Ecks to shoot and kill Jace for betraying them. Nightwing happened to be present and knocked Ecks out. The covert squad many in the syndicate to flee. Vertigo later located the squad and attacked. Ecks revealed his self-replication ability and each clone had a unique weapon. However, he was unequipped to field combat and was easily defeated after a smoke bomb was used. Nightwing found and knocked out the real Ecks. Simon Ecks and Baron Bedlam were taken to the Markovian National Penitentiary. On February 15, 05:45 EET, Team Year Nine, Ecks and Bedlam were extracted by Count Vertigo who boomed right to them. On February 16, Ecks aided in rounding up Markovians loyal to King Markov.
Ecks created 12 clones of himself and forced the loyalists to dig their own graves. Ecks was quickly defeated by Gamma Squad and Miss Martian applied a proprietary collar to the real Ecks. He was returned to the national penitentiary. On November 09, 18:17 EEST, Team Year Ten, Vertigo found dinner in the penitentiary to be insulting, peasant food. Vertigo noticed a red light. Suddenly, four armored individuals blew a wall and neutralized the guards on duty. The one marked "02" awaited Vertigo's command. Ecks was surprised Vertigo planned the jail break and asked why he didn't tell them. As they were flown out, Vertigo remarked it was a strictly need-to-know basis. In Star City, around the same time, other armored individuals in the group kidnapped Queen Perdita Vladek. On November 10th, Ecks, Piotor Platz, and Johann Mintz played cards in a cabin. Ecks noted a North American raccoon spying on them from outside the window. Platz noticed the little blue man, Kobold, atop it. Queen Vladek's kidnappers and their liberators attacked the Infinitors outside. The trio made their way to a forest clearning nearby and waited with Zviad Baazovi and two of the kidnappers.
