Dr. Desmond was the chief scientist and officer of Project Cadmus and has authority over all operations such as the Genomorph Projects, Project Kr, and Project Blockbuster. Merely an extension of the Light's will, Dr. Desmond leaves all major decisions to the mysterious Board of Directors and willingly suppressed the will of all other employees with Genomorph Gnomes. The Light appears to also be the one thing he fears and doesn't hold in contempt.
However, the unexpected intrusion of Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash forced Desmond to deviate from logical reasoning. He confronted the trio and Superboy after ingesting a Project Blockbuster serum. He transformed into a monstrosity and took the battle to the street level lobby. Robin crafted a strategy that collapsed the two-story building atop Blockbuster. The act attracted the entire Justice League. Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, Captain Atom, and Superman personally transported the unconscious villian to the proper authorities. The Guardian replaced him as head of Cadmus and Dr. Spence as chief scientist. Blockbuster was sent to Belle Reve Penitentiary and submitted to the authority of Icicle Senior. During a mass break out attempt, Blockbuster was frozen by a misguided Icicle Junior.
On December 30th, Blockbuster was brought to Santa Prisca to aid Lex Luthor and Queen Bee. Once he was directed to carry off Superboy, Artemis shot a Trick Arrow and confined him in foam. During the battle with the Team, Blockbuster fought Superboy. Aqualad and Rocket utilized Apokoliptian Weaponry to neutralize Blockbuster. On February 18th, Team Year Five, Blockbuster accompanied Klarion and Teekl in the Sacred Well Room of the Esagila in Bialya. Aquagirl was tied to a column in the room by Blockbuster to unwillingly aid in the awakening of Tiamat. Beta Squad arrived just as Tiamat rose from the well. Klarion left them to face it and ordered Blockbuster to come along. In the next chamber, Klarion was angered to see Aqualad in possession of his prize, the Tablet of Destiny. He dispatched Blockbuster. Alpha Squad managed to knock Blockbuster out by getting him in the way of Klarion's chaos magic.
On December 1st, Team Year Five, Blockbuster was present in one of crystal containers in Kylstar's base on the Moon. After being freed and hearing Kylstar's story, Blockbuster elected to stay with Kylstar and take part in a battle against those who enslaved his race.
