The Brain is a brilliant French scientist who joined the Light as one of its core seven members. He traveled to Bwunda with an older woman and several Shadows to experiment on gorillas. After a successful procedure on the first captured gorilla, Mallah, the scientist helped transfer the woman's brain into the body of a gorilla named Tolifhar. In order to be completely freed from the distractions of the physical, the scientist had his brain removed from his thin, frail body and placed within a receptacle. Now, he was "The Brain." The Brain, Mallah, and Ultra-Humanite continued their experiments for two years.
On September 10th, they settled in Northern India and captured an Indian Tiger. The Brain subjected it to brain enhancement and used it to lure more specimens. Over the course of nearly two weeks, the Brain subjected various elephants, wolves, vultures, crocodiles, and monkeys to Kobra Venom and took control of them with Proprietary Collars. On September 23rd, the Brain was elated when the tiger's latest capture was Captain Marvel. Long had the Brain pondered the effects of his powers, the so-called Wisdom of Solomon, on the cerebral cortex and was about to perform explorative surgery. When the Team arrived, the Brain ordered a retreat rather than fight them. The Brain and Mallah settled in a compound named Gorilla City, located somewhere in Bwunda. They continued their experiments alongside Ultra-Humanite, subjecting gorillas to both Kobra Venom and brain enhancement procedures.
On September 26th, the Brain was annoyed to see the Team in the Bwundan Jungle. He was further annoyed when his gorillas returned with all but Miss Martian and Wolf. While the search continued, the Brain decided to take advantage of the situation and experiment on the captured members of the Team. However, when Solovar's troop and the Team overwhelmed Gorilla City, the Brain activated the compound's self-destruct mechanism and escaped with Mallah and Ultra-Humanite.
On November 7th, the surviving piece of Starro was delivered to the Brain by Sportsmaster and Riddler. On December 5th, the Brain appeared in New Orleans with Monsieur Mallah, Klarion, Teekl, to work with Professor Ivo on the Starro sample. The Brain created a small opening on the cannister with his laser, then a MONQI administered Utility Fog, and Klarion cast magic. They disappeared once the task was done. On June 19th, Team Year Six, The Brain and Mallah attended the summit on Santa Prisca. During the battle against the Team, the Brain was stripped of his weapons by Impulse.
