The Collector of Worlds is an alien robot seeking to preserve one city, free of contamination, from all doomed planets. Throughout the galaxy, it is also known as "Vril Dox," "Notlimenif," "The Computer Tyrant of Bryak," "The Brain of Colu," and "The Maniac of Yod." The Collector was a machine equipped with the 12th level Coludroid brain and a skeleton composed of reinforced Bryaksium. In the 20th century, The Collector shrank and took Kandor from the planet Krypton before its destruction.

Decades later, on December 1st, 10:28 Eastern Standard Time (EST), Team Year Five, The Collector appeared in Geosynchronous Orbit over Earth. Once several assets were teleported from the planet, The Collector received a message in Interlac from a partner thanking it for its patience and giving the green light to proceed. At 10:35 EST, The Collector went forward with its collection and preservation and initiated phase one. It dispatched a generator probe that landed in Metropolis by the Daily Planet. Soon after, a spherical field formed around most of the city. At 16:22 EST, The Collector sent a reduction beam into the spherical field. Six minutes later, members of the Team and Justice League formulated a plan to confront latest alien threat.

At 17:45 EST, The Collector discovered intruders aboard its vessel and declared it would not be dissuaded from preserving Metropolis. The Collector's brain predicted the Flash's movements while its skeleton resisted Martian Manhunter's telekinesis. It realized Manhunter's biochemistry was overly sensitive to heat and exploited his weakness then tossed him into the Flash. The Collector easily defeated the Flash, Martian Manhunter, and the Atom then dumped them from the ship. It appeared to be unaware of Alpha Squad's presence thanks to Zatanna's glamour spell. However, the glamour was drained of its mystic energy and The Collector blasted the squad. The Collector was astonished to see not only a New Genesis Life-Tech but a Reach warrior among them. Blue Beetle and Sphere generated a frequency to neutralize The Collector's attack. Alpha Squad was soon accompanied by those taken by Kylstar. On Nightwing's orders, Lagoon Boy, aboard the Bio-Ship, opened fire on The Collector. Superboy examined its head.

The Collector still functioned and scanned Superboy, learning he was a clone with corrupted Kryptonian DNA. He was astonished to learn Superman was a true Kryptonian. Once Superman destroyed the head, The Collector returned in the form of 15 Coludroid units. He stopped his attack when the ship issued an alert. The force field generator probe was being tampered with by Bumblebee and Beast Boy. The Collector warned if the force field was shut down while the reduction beam was still engaged, Earth would be devastated. Not seeking to destroy, The Collector disengaged the beam while Nightwing ordered Bumblebee and Beast Boy to stand down. After a lengthy conversation, The Collector agreed to spare Metropolis and re-enlarge it to normal size. Once the task was complete, The Collector left Earth.
