Tartarus is a deep abyss used as a dungeon of torment and suffering that resides beneath the underworld. The souls of the dead judged and those who received punishment were sent to Tartarus. The entrance to Tartarus is somewhere near Greece and Turkey. Once a year, the gates can be opened during the Blood Moon with a sacrifice made to Hades, ruler of Tartarus. The harpies rest near the entrance and Cerberus guards the way to Hades, himself.
