The Cyclops is a member of a primordial race of giants, each with a single eye in the middle of its forehead. It was said they were originally three brothers: Arges, Brontes, and Steropes and were the sons of Uranus and Gaia. They quickly became infamous for their one eye, rage, and brute strength. In addition to their fighting skills, they were masons of the gods and Hephaestus' aides. They fashioned thunderbolts for Zeus, created Poseidon's trident, Artemis's bow and arrows, Apollo's bow and arrows, and the helmet of darkness that Hades gave to Perseus on his quest to kill Medusa.
The Cyclopses were not all in servitude of the gods. A separate group embraced their warrior traits and fought in the army of Ares against the Amazons.
