The Chimera is a monstrous creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of multiple animals. It has the body of a lioness, its tail is a snake, and its head is a goat. The Chimera is one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Hydra. Along with winged flight, it also has the ability to project flames from its mouth. The sight of the Chimera was regarded as an ill omen of storms, shipwrecks, and natural disasters. The Chimera is the steed of choice in Ares' army.
