Curtis Holt was a former engineer at Palmer Technologies, in Design Innovations, when Felicity Smoak was CEO. He later helped out in tech support for Team Arrow. Aside from being a biochemist, Holt is a renaissance man and has a knowledge of other fields like tracking software, facial recongnition, and algorithms. During a search for a teammate, Holt took a beating from thugs and was inspired to train so he wouldn't ever feel helpless again. He took up the name of his favorite wrestler, Terry Sloane, and became a costumed vigilante Mr. Terrific. He incorporated his favorite Fairplay jacket into his costume and wears a T-shaped mask to effectively hide his face. He often struggled to maintain a sense of justice, honor and morality. Being Mr. Terrific also cost him his marriage to his husband, Paul.

Rather than directly engage him for recruitment, Curtis Holt and Cisco Ramon went to Tulsa and fired a tranq-flechette into Ray Terrill when he stepped outside his parent's house. Terrill soon lost consciousness. They took him back to S.T.A.R. Labs. Just as Terrill started to regain consciousness, Holt remarked to Ramon it would suck if they kidnapped the wrong person. Ramon claimed they were recruiting. Terrill transformed into the Ray and demanded answers. Green Arrow and the Flash entered the room, whom he recongized. Holt explained they kept an eye on emerging heroes and metahumans. Ray was surprised they knew about him. Holt read off their research on him - birth date, college, relatives, and hobbies. They were interrupted by an alert from Vixen. The Flash, Green Arrow, Mr. Terrific, and The Ray went to Detroit and met up with Vixen. They discovered the threat was a giant robot. Mr. Terrific couldn't hold back his excitement. During the battle, Mr. Terrific jumped roof to roof and threw T-Spheres at it then later took flight in the finale. Arrow told Ray to aim his blasts in tighter groupings next time. Vixen suggested a "Nice job, kid" but Terrific informed her that was his version of the phrase.
