Alfred Pennyworth is the loyal butler to the Wayne Family in Gotham City. After Dr. and Mrs. Wayne were murdered, Pennyworth raised their son Bruce Wayne alone. After Wayne left college and later went abroad, Pennyworth continued to manage the day to day affairs of Wayne Manor and supported Wayne's desire for justice.
When Batman surfaced, Pennyworth's wit served as a foil to Batman's obsession and he continued to dispense sound advice, administered first aid and even gave tactical assistance from the Batcave. On several occassions, Pennyworth even retrieved a Batman too wounded to drive home. Undaunted as he is, even Pennyworth was shocked when a DNA analysis confirmed Jason Todd was still alive. He advised Batman that no matter what happened, Todd wasn't the same, Todd's death wasn't Batman's fault, and Todd knew Batman loved him. Upon Red Hood's defeat, Pennyworth offered to remove Jason Todd's Robin costume to which Batman declined.
