Ace Chemical Plant is a chemical processing facility based in Gotham City. It became notorious for the birthplace of one of history's greatest villains, the Joker, and Batman's first great failure. During a botched robbery, Batman confronted the Red Hood, ringleader of a gang of thieves. While trying to exonerate himself, Red Hood fell into a vat of acid and chemicals. The man survived but was disfigured and became the Joker.
Years later, a new Red Hood led Batman on a high speed chase through Gotham. It ended when Hood drove straight into Ace Chemical. Batman landed in through the plant's skylight and remembered his confrontation with the man who would be Joker. Red Hood interrupted and shot his car, igniting it. The fire and various chemicals set off an explosion that Batman narrowly escaped.
