Nolan is an orderly at Arkham Asylum. He was threatened by the Joker to help him. In return for posing as the Joker and supplying him with his gadgets, Nolan was promised he'd be spared. Nolan was then forced to set a trap for the Batman at the Monarch Factory, one of the Joker's known hideouts. The Batman defeated Nolan but he was then sealed in a giant playing card with the joker motif.
