Marion Grange was the mayor of Gotham City around the time the Batman first appeared. He was a good friend of Dr. Thomas Wayne. Grange's fondest memory appears to be that of fishing trips with Wayne. Years later, he was more than eager to endorse Bruce Wayne for government contracts but the rest of City Council was apprehensive about his public image.
As the Mayor, Grange has often been a favorite target of the Joker. Even his wife, Sheila was attacked on one occassion. Despite all of the unwanted attention, Grange was able to win re-relection against Maximillian Zeus. Grange appears to have barely won but after Zeus' idea of a private security force, Grange's support increased. However, it appears that after the invasion of the Joining, Grange left his post and was replaced by Hamilton Hill.
