Beth and Matt Gray are the wife and son of Francis Gray, a watch repairman based in Gotham City. Sometime in the late 80's, Matt was born to the happy couple despite a lag in paying bills on time. Beth Gray soon found herself a single parent when her husband went to jail for theft. After a couple of years, she got a divorce.
The divorce then prompted Francis Gray to get revenge against Gotham on New Year's Eve. Batgirl tracked down an 18 year old Matt Gray and convinced him to help reason with his father to stop. Matt agreed but was one of the victims killed by Gray's poison gas. Gray then used his powers to teleport back to the day of the theft. This time, he refused to steal the timepiece and avoided jail. His marriage was preserved and he branched off into a watch repair business of his own with his son, Gray & Son Repair. They were recently hired to fix a grandfather clock at Wayne Mansion.
