Detective Yin was originally a part of the Metropolis Police Department but transferred to Gotham City. Yin was then partnered with Detective Ethan Bennett. Unlike Bennett's near idol worship of the Batman, Yin was hard edged and wanted to arrest the vigilante as much as any other criminal in Gotham. However, over time, Yin began to question her stance on the Batman.

Six months later, the Batman saved Bennett from the Joker. Yin could have unmasked and arrested him. But she came to a decision that Gotham needs the Batman and began to secretly work with him. He gave her a PDA linked to the Batwave to keep in close communication. Yin's public valor often made her a target of the Joker and the Riddler, two of Gotham's most ego manical villains.

Chief Rojas eventually discovered Yin's secret and had her fired. Undaunted, Yin helped the Batman confront the Joker, Penguin, and Riddler on an offshore drilling platform. Commissioner Gordon prevented Rojas from arresting Yin and had her reinstated. While Yin remained on the force, Gordon used his status to safely ally with the Batman. Decades later, by 2027, Yin succeeded Gordon as Police Commissioner.
