Pagliacci is a two act opera written by composer, Ruggero Leoncavallo, that features a play within a play and a clown who murders his wife. It first premiered in Milan, Italy on May 21, 1892 and continues to play nationwide to today. The original costume is known to travel with the opera.
While on display for the opera performance at the Gotham Symphony Hall, the costume was stolen by the Joker. It was all a cover for Detective Yin's secret location. Professor Strange gleaned this when the Joker was distracted by the Batman. The costume was most likely recovered and returned to its rightful owner.
