Nth Metal is native to the planet Thanagar. Its unique properties are able to govern the four fundamental forces of the universe (strong, weak, gravitational, and electromagnetic). Nth Metal was created by Paran Katar, who later crafted a battle suit made of Nth Metal for his son to fight invaders. The suit then gave him super powers and on Earth, he took the name Hawkman. More popular for defying gravity and levitating its user, Nth Metal is also useful against fighting metahumans with the power of intangibility by interfering with dimensional shifting.
A rare meteorite from the Thanagar star system impacted Earth. It contained one element unknown to Earth, Nth Metal. Informed by Shadow Thief, Black Mask stole the meteor and created chemically-treated anti-gravity powder. With it, he would lift the gem depository into the sky and escort it to his hideout. However, the powder was not completely refined and proved to be unstable. During the flight, the components began exploding. Hawkman used his strength to guide the building into Gotham Harbor.
